Mike Tyson Made Old Heads Proud and Gave Jake Paul a Run for His Money
Lessons and reflections from watching the Tyson vs Paul fight
I watched the fight last night and it was very interesting. There’s lots of chatter about Paul’s underwhelming win over a retired and clearly-winded Mike Tyson.
My 3 biggest observations:
- They both seemed very cautious and almost hesitant to hit each other
- Both seemed mentally and physically prepared for the fight and Mike was not going to be knocked out
- The victory seemed muted and toned down in contrast to the hype
It looked like a bratty kid challenging his father and quickly realizing that Dad wasn’t going to back down or lay down.
I think Mike actually took it easy on him (like a father would) but still gave him a few hard punches to shock, and chastise. And I think once Jake felt those few body and soul-shaking punches from Iron Mike Tyson he had a reality check and FAFO moment of clarity. Although Mike Tyson was older, slower and milder — he was still a formidable opponent and world champion that should not be underestimated.
Early in the fight, Mike seemed like he was having problems with his mouthpiece and was a little winded, but he still wasn’t going down.
