Mt. Airy Community Seeks Solution to Surge in Package Thefts and Safety Concerns in Local Buildings

Last night a group of concerned residents met to discuss the surge in package theft and mailroom break-ins in Mt. Airy. Nine package theft security alerts have been sent since May. The emails and flyers have shown 3 different men stealing packages, mail, and medications, but they keep alluding the police.

The property manager stayed for a few minutes at the beginning of the meeting and a police officer arrived shortly after she left. It’s unclear if a resident or the manager called, but Officer Ray stayed for most of the meeting, took 6–7 police reports, and gave the following pointers:

Call 911 and file a police report if your package or mail has been stolen

Don’t let strangers follow you in the building or give your personal access code to delivery people

The Officer confirmed that he’s spoken to the property manager and his Captain is aware of the break-ins in the building and…
