This poem is in memory of my beloved Mom Mom, Helen Speach

Love and family are defined in so many beautiful ways

I found love and family in my second home — Philadelphia aka Philly at Mom Mom’s house — that was my safe space and saving grace

You can say what you want, but Philly love hits different — it’s hard and soft at the same time — it’s filled with life lessons and blessings

Philly love is chill and but always grinding and striving for more,

Philly love is steady — looks out and stays ready to give but has a hard time recieving,

It looks like tight knit neighborhoods, Fairmount Park, block parties, City hall, street festivals and majestic murals,

It tastes like the best food from any country or culture you can imagine from Italian water ice to Amish and Dutch Country classics and tastes from the Carribean, Asia and Latin America

It smells like river water, hot pretzels, cheesesteaks, and cookouts

It sounds like church bells and choirs, Teddy, Phylis and Ms. Jill and The Roots and Musiq and the loud crowds from…
